About Fairport Rugby
The team began as intramurals in the fall of 2002 at FHS and participated in the New York State Rugby Conference in the Spring of 2003. The Fairport boys immediately established themselves as competitors by placing second in New York State and advancing to the Northeast Regional playoffs three consecutive seasons. The Fairport girls went through their entire inaugural season without loosing a game, and have won their conference three years in a row.
Past competition includes many local schools as well as tours to Pennsylvania and Maryland. In the Northeast playoffs, Fairport competed against teams such as Xavier (NYC) and Boston College High School (Boston). Many Fairport players have distinguished themselves as New York State All-stars in the past years, and a large number of the team’s graduating class plays rugby in college.
Fairport Rugby is a club sport and therefore is not required to make cuts. All participants that practice will play for our team. If you are interested in playing rugby for Fairport, see Coach Kirsch (Social Studies) or Coach Kaseman (Math).
