Flag Rugby: Coach Lawther

Coach Lawther joined as a parent volunteer coach in the spring of 2013 and has been involved
with the club ever since. Currently, Lawther is coaching the coed flag program in which his youngest
son, one of three, is enrolled. His two older sons progressed through the club, advancing to
university rugby, and then onto men’s clubs; they are still actively engaged in rugby in various
capacities. Lawther was introduced to rugby in the early 80s while growing up in England &
Scotland. After relocating to Rochester in the early 90s, he joined the Rochester Aardvarks
where he primarily played as a scrumhalf or flyhalf until 2007. Neil is also certified in First Aid,
CPR, and AED, and holds a US Center for Safe Sports qualification, as well as a World Rugby
Level 1 Coaching certification. He remains actively involved in rugby, frequently spectating at
games and tournaments in the area. If you ask Lawther about his rugby highlights, he will tell you that it’s his privilege to have coached and developed his three sons in the game. As a player, his highlights include representing various counties he resided in across all age levels, as well as playing for a top senior club in the area in England. Professionally, Coach Lawther works for LeChase Construction as a construction manager.
